Welcome to the Residents as Teachers Toolkit
Residents play an important role in the education of medical students and junior learners. To assist Program Directors in developing medical residents as teachers, learners and critical thinkers, Education Research and Development (ERD) has compiled this Residents as Teachers Toolkit. This toolkit can also be utilized by Residents seeking resources to develop their own teaching skills. In line with the ACGME Outcomes Project, ERD proposed a Competency-based education (CBE) approach to resident education. CBE is an approach to education that prepares trainees to perform tasks occurring within the context of practice. It place primary emphasis on identifying and measuring specific learning outcomes or competencies. It also emphasizes the ability to help learners self-assess and extend their learning.
